One killed in Mississippi Mudbug shootout

A Law Enforcement officer shot and killed a man who was thought to have been firing a weapon at this year's Mississippi Mudbug festival, at the Mississippi State Fairground in Jackson.

This was the second year for this festival. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones told Associated Press that two or three people had exchanged gunfire around 10 p.m. on Saturday night in the fairgrounds parking lot.

The festival had been due to finish on Sunday, but the last day of the event was cancelled given the breaking news.

Jones confirmed that several people had been transported to a local hospital and that an "officer involved shooting investigation is underway stemming from this incident," and that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation had been called in. Several people were detained for questioning and police recovered several rifles and a pistol from the scene.

Saturday night's headliners were 70s legends Blue Oyster Cult, who when reached for comment, confirmed that everyone in their camp was fine. Organisers of the festival told Pitchfork, "We are saddened at the loss of life and wish the best for the injured. Thanks go out to our law enforcement officers that prevented any other harm."
