Kathleen Hanna and more - benefit for Land Trust

Kathleen Hanna, of Bikini Kill and the Julie Ruin, has leant her voice to a new benefit album - to raise money for Land Trust and the North East Farmers for Color (NEFOC).

Mirrorball is the new song by Kathleen Hanna and is part of a special new album due to be released to raise money for NEFOC.

The Land Trust album is the brainchild of Bikini Kill guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle and their drum tech Vice Cooler (also part of the Raincoats). The album also features many other notable performers, including Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), the Linda Lindas, Alice Bag, Kelley Deal (The Breeders) and members of Deerhoof, Shopping and Priests. Not to mention, the Raincoats, Emily Retsas (from Phoebe Bridgers band), Mike Watt (Minutemen) and Kathy Wilcox (Bikini Kill).

Hanna said of her decision to be a part of the album, "This is the very, very rare benefit album where no one just sent in some crappy B-side. All the songs are fucking great, the performers really put their hearts into it."

NEFOC is a grass roots organisation that connects farmers of color to land, where they can grow healthy food and medicines for their communities. Lyle said about the cause, "It's become difficult to organise or make change when everybody's so far flung throughout cities and living so precariously in fear of eviction. But on a farm, you have the collective work to produce healthy food.... The ownership of land makes all of these things possible."

The album will be released on Bandcamp on 3 June - and Mirrorball is already available there for a listen - and I would recommend you do!
