The king of mellow 80s pop, Bruce Hornsby, has been moving in some fairly cool circles in recent years. There has been work with Bon Iver and The National in recent years, and now an album, 'Flicted', produced by Ariel Rechtschaid (Usher, Vampire Weekend), that features collaborations with Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Blake Mills (who has toured with the likes of Jenny Lewis and Band of Horses) and Danielle Haim.
Haim joins Hornsby on the track Days Ahead. Her involvement is perhaps not surprising, as she is Rechtschaid's partner and often works with him. The song is about an ageing couple who are trying to maintain a connection as they get older. The result is a slight advancement of Hornsby's smooth 80s sound and a quirky 3-D printed video, with the two of them becoming dolls in a dolls house, learning German.
The parent album, Flicted, is the last of a trilogy that Hornsby wrote as film cues for writer and director, Spike Lee; following 2019's Absolute Zero and 2020's Non-Secure Connection.
